Riot control/ civil unrest tactics:
The tactics taught are similar to the ones used by the Seattle Police department to stop and mitigate the destruction in Seattle during the summer riots in Seattle. Kerry trained nearly every officer who worked the front lines including specialized units and SWAT.
The summer riots of 2020 around the country showed that civil unrest can occur in any city, suburb, or even or nation’s capital. The idea of not if, but when holds true. The lack of civil unrest training leads to unnecessary injury, destructive property damage, and million-dollar lawsuits.
A basic 8-hour course will train officers to perform squad formation and drill techniques. Students will learn how to form squad formations and perform basic drills. Students will also learn the fundamentals of baton display and direct-action techniques. An 8-hour course provides the skills to handle a civil unrest situation.
Students will also learn, practice, and demonstrate marching in formation to include moving, turning and stopping.
Students will learn basic movement techniques to approach and move compliant and non-compliant crowds. Techniques include moving forward toward a crowd and moving forward dynamically utilizing a baton push. Students will be trained on techniques and tactics to move crowds, perform arrests as a team, and perform rescues as a team within a crowd. All techniques are simple and extremely effective.
Riot control classes are generally set as an 8-hour basic course and a 16-hour advanced course which includes the use of shields, responding from vehicles, and dynamic scenarios. All classes however can be tailored to your department’s needs. For multi-agency teams or large metro departments, a 4-5 day train-the-trainer program is available. Class size is minimum 15 students to max 35 for proper student/ teacher ratio. Please contact us for specific information.
Riot control classes can include or be exclusively police mountain bike tactics.
